Your home is more than bricks and walls — it holds the energy you return to every evening. When that energy flows freely, sleep is deeper, conversations are easier and money stays. Vastu Shastra offers simple ways to make that happen, and most of them need no construction at all.
1. Keep the main entrance bright and clear
The entrance is the mouth of the home. Keep it well lit, free of shoes and clutter, and make sure the door opens fully without obstruction. A nameplate in good condition and a clean threshold invite opportunity in.
2. Let the north-east breathe
The north-east (Ishanya) is the zone of clarity and spiritual growth. Keep it the lightest, cleanest part of the house. Avoid heavy furniture, storage, toilets or dustbins here; a small water feature or the puja space suits it well.
3. Sleep with your head to the south
Sleeping with the head towards the south or east supports restful sleep and good health. Avoid sleeping with the head to the north.
4. Ground the south-west
The south-west governs stability and relationships. It should be the heaviest part of the home — the master bedroom, a heavy wardrobe or a solid wall. A pair of rose quartz swans here strengthens harmony between partners.
5. Cook facing east
The kitchen sits best in the south-east, the zone of fire. Whoever cooks should face east. Keep the stove and the sink apart: fire and water placed side by side create friction.
6. Clear the clutter
Broken clocks, unused electronics, dead plants and old newspapers hold stagnant energy. Clear them out, especially from the centre of the home — the Brahmasthan — which should stay open.
7. Bring in light, air and plants
Open windows in the morning, let sunlight in from the east, and keep healthy green plants like money plant or tulsi. Avoid thorny plants such as cactus indoors.
